This week in East Meadow, we celebrated Patricia's 20th anniversary as an employee of The Bristal! Better known as Pat, she began her career with The Bristal as a Resident Services Aide, working her way up to her current position as a Resident Services Shift Supervisor in Reflections. She has been a valuable asset to the East Meadow team by always creating a welcoming atmosphere, mentoring new employees, and caring for the residents with such compassion. Thank you Pat, for your hard work and dedication to The Bristal family!⠀

This week is National Assisted Living Week and we are proudly honoring our outstanding team members! The theme this year is "Caring is EssentiAL" and it recognizes the vital role assisted living employees play in the lives of residents and their loved ones. Employees in Somerset were surprised with a Mister Softee ice cream truck earlier this week. It was a perfect afternoon treat to show the team how appreciated they truly are! She shares her thoughts on what makes working for The Bristal so special – “I love my job because everyone has the same vision. Everyone works together. Virgo Smart began his career at The Bristal in 2003, working part-time as a dish washer while completing his business degree at York College. As he gained more experience in the kitchen – moving from dish washer to prep cook to sous chef – he fell in love with cooking. After finishing his degree, he decided to pursue a culinary degree as well. Virgo currently serves as the Director of Food Service at The Bristal at Lake Success, but has worked at The Bristal at Massapequa, as well as The Bristal at North Woodmere. His passion for cooking, and the joy he receives from preparing food for others to enjoy, is evident. It is also something he tries to impart to the team that he leads in the kitchen – “My job is to help everyone grow in their position. I try to act as a mentor and guide to my staff, so we can put out the best product possible.” His reward is the smiles on residents’ faces after meals. He continues, “Once I get that one resident who says they really enjoy my food – there’s nothing better than that.” We are truly grateful for team members like Virgo, who make The Bristal Assisted Living so special! *Note: picture taken Feb 2020.⠀
