The Bristal understands the important role that staying socially active plays in keeping ourselves happy and engaged – we all feel better when we make time to have fun! Our team of recreation professionals are continuously seeking new and innovative way to help residents stay active – especially given the current environment. From delivering the supplies for painting projects to themed dance parties (socially distanced, of course), there is an activity for everyone. When there’s a will, there’s a way, and we are certainly finding that way! Here are just a few of the ways we’re staying active:

This month we kicked off our Taste of the Season program at all of The Bristal communities! Food meets fun in this exciting new program. Taste of the Season showcases various ingredients that are not only tasty, but good for you too. Prepared by our talented chefs, residents will be sampling these creative dishes that will feature a new ingredient each time. In addition, the recreation teams are serving up a side of education and fun - adding a variety of activities onto the calendar that explore each ingredient. One of the features this month - a warm farro salad!⠀

A special surprise for Lake Grove resident Marilyn on her 89th birthday! After waking up to this beautiful display setup outside her window yesterday, she learned that her family had delivered "a party in a bag" - filled with all the bells and whistles that make celebrating your birthday a good time! To make Marilyn's birthday extra special this year, her daughter started sending her a card a day to open beginning January 1st. In that card was a puzzle piece, and on day 20 the puzzle would be complete. Things may have looked a little different this year, but Marilyn feels more special than ever as she enters her 89th year!⠀

Yesterday in Jericho, we celebrated what would have been Elvis Presley's 86th birthday! We enjoyed singing some of his famous hits, while snacking on his popular favorite - peanut butter and banana sandwiches!⠀

Today on #GivingTuesday we want to recognize The Bristal Helping Hands, a resident volunteer program throughout The Bristal communities. From crocheting blankets, scarves, and hats for those who need them most, to crafting gifts for their fellow residents just to put a smile on their faces, The Bristal Helping Hands do their best to better their own communities and the world - and that is what Giving Tuesday is all about!⠀

Happy Anniversary to Don and Terry who celebrated 65 years of marriage last week here in East Northport! This happy couple got married on November 5, 1955. They have 4 beautiful children and 7 grandchildren. After living in Melville for over 60 years, they moved into The Bristal at East Northport and we couldn't be happier!⠀

Last week residents and staff in East Northport turned The Bristal pink as a way of recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to honor all those who have been affected by breast cancer. The sea of pink was a beautiful sight, but the best part of the day was sharing our love and support with our peers.⠀

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Bristal Helping Hands in East Northport wanted to get to work crocheting blankets to donate to those who have been affected. We recently made a donation to the Huntington Hospital Volunteer Services Department, who will be distributing the blankets to those who are battling breast cancer. This month and every month we are so happy to be able to give back to our community.
