Woodcliff Lake Residents Visit the Butterfly Atrium

Woodcliff Lake Reflections residents had a wonderful time visiting the World of Wings in Teaneck. The indoor butterfly atrium houses hundreds of live butterflies from around the world. They also have beautiful waterfalls and a Koi pond to enjoy. In the exhibit area, residents got an up close and personal experience with live reptiles! Everyone had a great time.

Pointillism Class in Woodcliff Lake

We had an interesting art class on pointillism here at Woodcliff Lake. We looked at some famous paintings that were created through the art technique known as pointillism and we were excited to try it out for ourselves! First we made colors by combining 2 primary color dots in a square to make another color, for example: red dots and blue dots make purple. Once we understood how to make different colors, we painted our own landscapes. Take a look at the masterpieces we created!

Resident Art Show in Woodcliff Lake

We all had a great time here in Woodcliff Lake at our Resident Art Show. All of the  wonderful pieces were created by our very own residents! We loved being able to share our masterpieces with each other and learn new things about our fellow residents. Congratulations to all of our artists and thank you for showing us your work!

Woodcliff Lake’s Holiday Party

We all had a wonderful time at our annual Holiday Party here in Woodcliff Lake. We dressed our best and enjoyed an evening with friends. There were festive drinks and we dined on an amazing buffet spread. Happy Holidays from all of us here in Woodcliff Lake!

Coney Island Pretzel Bar at the ADRC Walk

Residents and staff from The Bristal Assisted Living attended this year’s Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center Walk in Old Bethpage. The theme was “Coney Island Street Fair” so The Bristal showed their support with a booth where attendees could get fresh, hot soft pretzels. Our Coney Island Pretzel Bar was a huge hit, but most importantly, the ADRC raised funds that are so desperately needed to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease. The Bristal was proud to be a part of this effort.

Aromatherapy Lecture in Woodcliff Lake

Joanne was kind enough to join us one afternoon and give a very informative Aromatherapy Lecture. She taught us all about the different effects that scent can have on the body – including relaxation and alertness. Joanne brought with her many different essential oils that we were able to sample as she taught us about each one. It was certainly an interesting learning experience!

Balance Class in Woodcliff Lake

The Balance Class here in Woodcliff Lake was a great success! We had so many residents show up to participate. The instructor started by warming us up with a few exercises. He led us one by one through the balance course, teaching us tips and tricks along the way that were tailored to each of us. It was interesting to learn about what affects balance and mobility as we age, and we are all looking forward to the next Balance Class.

Drum Circle in Woodcliff Lake

Here in Woodcliff Lake, we invited Brendan, founder of Your World Drum Circles, to bring his instruments and teach us something new. A great time was had by all, letting loose and experiencing new things. We banged along to traditional African songs and also songs of the 40’s and 50’s that brought back wonderful memories. We can’t wait to welcome him back again. It was a great stress reliever – and gave us a good arm workout, too!

Harp Music in Woodcliff Lake Reflections

The very talented Evelyn joined us in Woodcliff Lake Reflections and brought along her harp. She played beautiful harp music for us as we ordered our dinner, and continued throughout our meal. We all hummed and sang along to some of our favorite standards. We were happy to have Evelyn and look forward to another visit.

The Bristal Attends SunriseWALKS! at Sunrise Day Camp

The Bristal Helping Hands community volunteers proudly supported Sunrise Day Camp at this year’s SunriseWALKS! event. The Bristal provided the VIP breakfast before the walk got started. It was a warm day, but that didn’t stop anyone from coming out to support the first dedicated camp in the United States for children with cancer and their siblings. Residents, staff and their families donned their Helping Hands t-shirts and either volunteered their time, or participated in the walk. After the walk, Sunrise Day Camp provided an amazing carnival of games and treats for the children to enjoy. The Bristal team bounced around beach balls and gave them to the crowd. It was a great day, and we were glad to be a part of SunriseWALKS!

Woodcliff Lake Residents at the NJ Jackals Game

A few Woodcliff Lake residents headed out to a New Jersey Jackals Game at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals played against the Quebec Capitals and won the game 6 – 4. We all had a nice time despite the overcast day, and it was even better to see our local team win. Their team mascot – Jack the Jackal – even stopped by to take a picture with us. We’re looking forward to catching another game this season!

American Airpower Museum 2014

Residents from all of the Long Island Communities kicked off Memorial Day Weekend with a trip to the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport. Out on the grounds, there were planes of all kinds parked so that we could get a close-up view. In the hangar was where we enjoyed lunch and dancing!

The day started with the National Anthem sung by our very own Barbara Heaphy from East Northport. The Bristal and the Airpower Museum arranged for certificates to be handed out to veterans who wished to be a part of the Legacy Keepers program. The vision of the program is to allow Long Island students and living historians to meet with our veterans, listen to their life’s experiences first hand and then pledge to retell those stories for years to come before school groups, at living history events and veterans tributes. It is a great opportunity for our veteran residents to share their stories so that the community at large can learn from their courage, strength, patriotism, and sacrifice for our nation.

After the ceremony, the Bay City Rambers took it away and played all of our favorite standards. Some of us danced the day away, and others took the chance to tour the planes. We all enjoyed a lunch of assorted sandwiches, and hot dogs right from the cart! It truly was a wonderful way to begin our Memorial Day Weekend. Check out our photo gallery from the day:

Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Celebration in Woodcliff Lake

Woodcliff Lake hosted a Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening Celebration on May 15th, 2014. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. We’re extremely proud of all who had a hand in helping to make The Bristal at Woodcliff Lake the beautiful community that it is today.

Mary Stella Performs in Woodcliff Lake

A local performer, Mary Stella, joined us for a morning of entertainment. She sang old folk songs as well as patriotic favorites. She got us all involved in the fun by giving us different percussion instruments to play as she sang. Mary definitely brought joy to all of us with her songs, and we look forward to having her back!

Flower Arrangements in Woodcliff Lake Reflections

Reflections residents in Woodcliff Lake tried their hand at arranging flowers. Rafael led the group, but left it free to artistic expression. We think everyone did a fantastic job! Their flower arrangements will be a terrific addition to their apartments.
