100th Birthday in Woodcliff Lake

We held a very special event here in Woodcliff Lake today! Resident Sylvia Whitney, born on April 1, 1918, celebrated her 100th birthday with everyone from her friends and family to the local elected officials. Sylvia was the ninth resident to move into The Bristal at Woodcliff Lake when they opened five years ago! Mother of two, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of ten, Sylvia continues to live a beautiful life. Among the people there to honor her were Councilwoman Nancy Gross, Councilwoman Kristy Herrington, Councilman Corrado Belgiovine, and State Senator Jerry Cardinale. Sylvia was surrounded by pictures of her best memories as well as all of her loved ones as she was celebrated on this special day.

National Wear Red Day in Woodcliff Lake

Today we wore red for National Wear Red Day. Go Red For Women is a movement developed by the American Heart Association in an effort to raise awareness for women’s cardiovascular health, encourage research and educate women. Residents here in Woodcliff Lake were proud to show their support by dressing in red and hosting a bake sale, selling treats made by both the residents and staff. We are always happy to help out a good cause!

Breakfast with Santa in Woodcliff Lake

Here in Woodcliff Lake we hosted a special breakfast with Santa! Families joined us for a morning filled with holiday cheer. We enjoyed breakfast from a beautifully prepared pancake and omelette station, holiday caroling, and of course a visit from Santa Claus. Santa took the time to sit with every girl, boy and resident there! It was the perfect way to kick off this holiday season.

Halloween in Woodcliff Lake

We had such a great time celebrating Halloween this year in Woodcliff Lake. Residents voted for their favorite costumes during our costume contest. After choosing a winner, Anne Tormela, of the Manhattan Opera, gave a beautiful performance that was followed by some sweet treats. Everyone dressed up for the fun-filled day, even the pets that stopped by. The directors participated by dressing up as a team of Pirates! Here in Woodcliff Lake, we love any opportunity to get dressed up and take silly pictures!

Memory Boxes in Woodcliff Lake Reflections

We recently gathered together with our families in Woodcliff Lake Reflections to create special Memory Boxes. Families brought pictures and mementos and reminisced with loved ones. As everyone talked and shared stories, together they created beautiful memory boxes for each resident to hang up. Everyone had a wonderful time, including the staff, who were happy to hear the special memories that residents had to share.

Halloween in Woodcliff Lake

On Halloween this year, we had a fun costume party! All of the directors dressed up as ‘Where’s Waldo’ but only one of us was the “real” Waldo. Residents had to guess which one was correct! Also, we had a costume contest, and Colleen, our Recreation Bus Driver, won with her Mermaid costume! Everyone had a great time on Halloween.

Grandparents Day in Woodcliff Lake

On Grandparents Day this year, we invited families to join us for a day of fun! We gathered in the Bistro and enjoyed entertainment from Ray and Nancy of As Time Goes By. They had some extra special activities for the kids who joined us that day. Everyone had a wonderful time, and truly enjoyed spending time with family and making memories with grandchildren.

Woodcliff Lake Residents Visit Asbury Park

Residents from Woodcliff Lake headed out to enjoy a gorgeous day at the Asbury Park boardwalk. Everyone enjoyed a full day of strolling and shopping along the Jersey Shore. We stopped for lunch – and dined al fresco, of course – truly making the most of the gorgeous weather! The candy store was one of our favorite stops, where we each found a little sweet treat to take home and enjoy. We look forward to spending more beautiful summer days down at the shore.

Americans are increasingly seeking insights provided by online reviews to help guide important senior care decisions for aging or ailing loved ones. In multiple research studies, the majority of family caregivers have indicated that they turn to the Internet and consumer reviews when researching senior living communities, and have relied on these perspectives more so than in-person recommendations from geriatric professionals or medical personnel. Now entering its fifth year, the Caring Stars annual list helps consumers reliably narrow senior living options for their loved ones to the most-acclaimed communities – particularly as they gather for the holidays and discover increased or urgent senior care needs.
