Lynbrook Staff Appreciation 2015

Our Staff Appreciation week here in Lynbrook was fantastic. We began the week by decorating the community. We all enjoyed themed days, staff games, and prizes. One of our favorite days was the Super Staff Barbecue out on the patio. We had absolutely perfect weather and truly enjoyed celebrating together. It’s not just what we do, it’s how we do it!

Fourth of July in Lynbrook

Lynbrook residents danced the day away during our Fourth of July celebration this year. We had a special performance from our favorite entertainer, Steve Cassano, who played guitar and sang all of our favorite hits. In Reflections, our very own Director of Recreation, Kevin Callaghan, sang for us and we loved singing along with him! We couldn’t help getting up on our feet to dance and sing along with all of the great music. Afterwards, we had a dessert social with apple pie and delicious patriotic drinks. Happy Fourth of July from The Bristal at Lynbrook!

Wednesday Night Dance Party in Lynbrook

Every other week, we have our Wednesday Night Dance Party here in Lynbrook. We gather in the evening to enjoy live music – and we dance the night away! A few of the ladies here have affectionately dubbed themselves “The Belles of The Bristal” and they never miss a chance to dance.

Country Western Day in Lynbrook

We all had a blast during our Country Western Day here in Lynbrook. Jerry Russo entertained us on the main dance floor, and Recreation Director Kevin Callaghan played country hits in Reflections. Everyone had a great time dressing up and dancing the day away.

American Airpower Museum 2015

Each year, residents from The Bristal Assisted Living communities gather at The American Airpower Museum to kick off Memorial Day Weekend. The Long Island communities were joined this year by a group of dedicated folks from White Plains! Everyone was treated to a delicious lunch, including the museum guests for the day. We enjoyed sandwich platters, chips, cookies, and hot dogs straight from the cart. The Bay City Ramblers performed for us inside the hangar, and many residents spent the afternoon just dancing away to the patriotic songs that they played.

We were honored to have over 50 Veterans from The Bristal in attendance – both residents AND staff! Everyone had a wonderful time after lunch strolling around the hangar and museum – as well as going outside the hangar to enjoy the old planes and the sunshine. Our day at the American Airpower Museum is always such a wonderful way to start our Memorial Day Weekend.

Our mother, Jane Mangan was a resident of the Bristal at Lynbrook, Reflections unit for the last 4 1/2 years. We were exceptionally pleased with the competent care and love she was shown by so many fine Bristal staff members. Words cannot express our thanks to Shaniqua Hayes and the caring professionals on the Reflections unit. Each one went above and beyond to give our mom and the other residents on that floor the respect and dignity they deserved as well as making their final years as pleasant and fun as possible. The commitment to their “family”, as they called their residents, demonstrated professionalism, empathy and loving care.

I have never met a more dedicated group of women who take so much pride in their work. Shaniqua Hayes and Tiffany Campbell top the list-they set the high standards for the Reflections unit that were reflected in the work of each member of their team. Sarah Johnson, Cislyn Butcher and Icilda Esty, always went above and beyond in their care for all their residents. Marie Pierre, Pauline Staine, Mireille Joseph, and Mercylin Brown were exceptional in their care and concern as were Nadine Richards, Marie Pierre, Jodian Campbell, Marie Noel Gaspard, and Michenelle Valcourt. Many thanks also to Sheree Sims, Amiria Casimir, Ruth Arevalo, Beverly Hall, Michelle Jones, Jacqueline Armstrong, Jeanette Campbell, Marcia Edwards and Veronica Fremong who always had a kind word and smile for Jane.

Thank you to John Giordano, Parthenia, and Melissa who were very helpful during Jane’s last few weeks on hospice, as well as Alan, David, Michelle, and Pamela who always greeted Jane by name for the 4 years she was there. I must also mention Billy and Mike who always had a smile and hello for Jane and Jeanette who hugged her every time she dropped off towels. Thank you to the ladies from Queen of Peace Parish who prayed with Jane and made it possible for her to receive Holy Communion each week. Special thanks to Viola, Jane’s roommate for 4 1/2 years, and devoted niece, Renee. Your support meant the world to us. Thank you also to all the wonderful residents of the Reflections unit. May God bless you all and watch over you.

Our family has been very privileged to know all of you and on behalf of Jane, we wish you much good health and happiness in life. We also hope that at the end of our lives and yours, we will all be so fortunate to be cared for by such kind and loving people as yourselves.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Fond regards-

Robert, Elizabeth, Michael, and Pat Mangan

Cinco de Mayo in Lynbrook

We all had a great time here in Lynbrook, dancing the day away this Cinco de Mayo. Entertainer Steve Casano kept us up on the dance floor all afternoon! Reflections residents and staff learned salsa and samba moves with entertainer Gerard Corbett. As you can see, we all just love a good party! Happy Cinco de Mayo from all of us here in Lynbrook.

My aunt is in The Bristal at Lynbrook. We are very pleased with the place, and we see a couple of other things that we like. We settled on that because it was five minutes away from family members. The rooms are very nice. They have activities like cards, dominoes, and bingo. They go on shopping trips. In the summer, they go swimming. I like that the staff seems quite sincere, accommodating, and helpful.

St. Patrick’s Day in Lynbrook

The Banjo Rascals came in for an afternoon of Irish fun this St. Patrick’s Day. Residents here in Lynbrook could hardly stay in their seats as the band played all of the Irish standards. Everyone had a terrific time dancing the day away. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Lynbrook’s Valentine’s Day Celebration

We went all out for Lynbrook’s Valentine’s Day Celebration this year. Baritone Jacques Le Bas entertained us all afternoon with his beautiful voice, singing our favorite love songs. We all dressed in red and donned red feather boas. After the fun and dancing, we moved into the Bistro where we enjoyed Valentine’s Day treats, including cupcakes and a chocolate fountain.

Valentine’s Day 2015 in Lynbrook Reflections

Valentine’s Day in Lynbrook Reflections was a day full of fun – and love! We enjoyed live entertainment from Vance Brescia, as he sang all of our favorite love songs. He even convinced Director of Recreation, Kevin Callaghan, to join him for a song or two! Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us here in Lynbrook.

Helping Hands Make Valentines for Veterans in Lynbrook

The Bristal Helping Hands community volunteers got together in Lynbrook to create very special valentines. This project – Valentines for Veterans – was a great way to show the love to those who served our country. Residents hand made each Valentine’s Day card, and donated them all to the Nassau Veteran’s Service Agency, who distributed them to local area veterans.
