The Bristal “Lights the World in Teal” with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America

On Wednesday, November 8th, The Bristal joined landmarks all across the world in lighting up teal to show support for the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA), and their Light the World in Teal campaign. This annual campaign is held during the month of November for Alzheimer’s awareness month. Residents and employees came together to show their support by not only lighting their buildings in teal, but by participating in different themed programs. Residents took part in activities including an interactive strings attached trivia game on brain health, and an Alzheimer’s awareness parade.  The Bristal was proud to be a part of this worldwide effort.

Halloween in Lynbrook

This year on Halloween in Lynbrook, residents welcomed a group of students from a local school to show off their costumes. The students brought hand painted pumpkins for the residents and came prepared with a performance! The residents were just as prepared with goodie bags that they had filled for the students ahead of time. The visit was followed by entertainment with Gerard Corbett, and of course a creepy crawler social hour! Everyone was dressed in their finest costumes, so it was nearly impossible to decide who had the best. Overall, it was an afternoon filled with smiles and laughter.

Grandparents Day in Lynbrook

Here in Lynbrook, residents, friends, and families gathered for a special Grandparents Day celebration.  A classic Walt Disney theme brought all generations together.  Everyone from grandparents to grandchildren dressed up like their favorite Disney characters and enjoyed themed music, games, and sweet treats!

Lynbrook’s Camp Day

Here in Lynbrook, residents and staff came together for a Camp Day to show our support for Sunrise Day Camp, a camp for children with cancer and their siblings. The “Senior Scouts” set up in the foyer to sell bracelets and blankets that they have been making in anticipation of this fundraiser. All of the proceeds will be donated to the camp. We also had a “camp fire” that everyone gathered around. We had a giant drum circle which included singing and dancing. After that, everyone enjoyed s’mores rice crispy treats, a s’mores ice box cake and s’mores trail mix. We all had an amazing day during our Camp Day.

Cinco de Mayo in Lynbrook

On Cinco de Mayo this year, Lynbrook residents threw a fiesta that just wouldn’t end! We enjoyed a Mexican inspired buffet lunch. After that, we danced away the afternoon with Lisa and cooled off with some delicious Margaritas. We were all having so much fun, we didn’t want the day to end!

St. Patrick’s Day Brunch in Lynbrook

We had a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day Brunch here in Lynbrook. The Ciara Greene School of Irish Dance came in and gave a special St. Patrick’s Day performance and presentation. The talented dancers were followed by an Irish Brunch in the dining room featuring Irish classics like corned beef and cabbage, and of course some Baileys Irish Cream and Irish beer! Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us here in Lynbrook.

Celebrating the Holidays in Lynbrook

We made sure that everyone enjoyed a little holiday cheer this year while celebrating the holidays! We had parties for residents, parties in Reflections, and a party where we invited all of our families to come and join us! It is a special time of year, and what better way to celebrate than to share time with those we love? Our days have been filled with delicious food and drinks, unending music, and lots of laughter. There have been visits from Santa Claus, special meals complete with chef stations, and live entertainment from JK Hodge, Greg Mulad, Lou Esposito, Johnny C, and Vance Brescia. Happy Holidays from The Bristal at Lynbrook!

‘Through Our Eyes’ Art Exhibit

This year, we created a special art exhibit called “Through Our Eyes.” Residents from all of The Bristal communities created artwork using various mediums. Then, our art went on display at the Long Island Museum for a month as a special exhibit! There were photos and bios of the artists, and so many people got to enjoy our unique artwork. Thank you to everyone who participated, the Long Island Museum for their hospitality, and to everyone who came to support us.

Veterans Day in Lynbrook

This Veterans Day, we honored all of our veterans here in Lynbrook with a special ceremony. A few veterans from the local VFW came and made a special presentation. This was followed by Dawn, our Executive Director, presenting each of the veterans with a Certificate of Appreciation. We followed up our ceremony with some refreshments – complete with patriotic red, white and blue cupcakes.

Wine & Paint Night in Lynbrook

Residents in Lynbrook thoroughly enjoyed our most recent Wine & Paint Night event. We always have such a great turnout when we do this and last night was no different! Residents enjoyed wine, cheese, and crackers while they followed the guidance of Director of Recreation, Allie. Each resident did their own take on this autumn scene, and they all turned out to be masterpieces in their own way!

Halloween Festivities in Lynbrook

On Halloween this year, we started our day with a visit from Lynbrook South Middle School. The students played music for us and also handed out beautifully painted pumpkins to the residents. This year, the residents were ready with a gift for them, too – special goodie bags that they made for the kids. Later, just for fun, we taught the residents how to do Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ dance! Then, we enjoyed some entertainment in the evening from Gerard Corbett. Everyone had a great Halloween!
