East Northport’s Mardi Gras Celebration

Residents reveled in the spirit of Mardi Gras during a special menu luncheon, while listening to the sounds of New Orleans born and raised Jazz trumpeter and singer, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong. The party continued with the ceremony of The King Cake and the coronation of The Bristal’s Queen of Mardi Gras. Queen Gunny Caputo and her chosen King, Tony Giovinco, sat on their thrones to face their royal subjects. The will reign together one year until next year’s ceremony!

Valentine’s Day in East Northport

For Valentine’s Day this year in East Northport, the debonair members of the Men’s Club handed out roses to the ladies as they entered the dining room for a special Valentine luncheon, prepared with elegance by Food Service Director, Jan Slensky. Residents dressed in red and dined in Valentine style, with a choice of Herb-roasted Rack of Lamb, Chicken Cordon Bleu or Sweet Sauteed Shrimp. The tables were scattered with rose petals and a Hershey’s Kiss sat in a festive dessert holder atop each coffee cup. The music of Frank Sinatra filled the air as residents socialized and reminisced about Valentine’s past…and present! In Refections, residents also dined in style with the same delicious meal options and songs of love.
Roses symbolizing and representing each resident adorned a glass vase, ready for the resident to gift their loved ones who visited on Valentine’s Day. Later in the afternoon, residents enjoyed a Valentine Social featuring chocolate covered strawberries and a sing-along to American Standard love songs. Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us here in East Northport!

Arabian Nights Fun in East Northport

Residents and staff both had a wonderful time yesterday at our Arabian Nights Day. We dined on a special cultural dish prepared by Chef Jan, then had our photos taken at our themed photo booth. Talented middle-eastern dancer, Nabila, integrated cultural facts about the art of the dance and residents were mesmerized. The theme continued with a special 2-part showing of “Lawrence of Arabia” starring Peter O’Toole.

My mother is a resident in the Bristal in East Northport. She has been there for about a year now. We visited a dozen different places before deciding on the Bristal. The first time we walked in we knew this was the place. The overall appearances, amenities, and set up are second to none. The rooms are bigger and the facility is brand new. These things are immediately apparent, but the thing that appealed to us most were the people. She hasn’t been happier in years. You must visit this place before making any decisions or you’re doing your loved ones a terrible disservice.

East Northport’s Holiday Party 2014

Our Holiday Party was simply perfect this year. We started the day by decorating the lobby and trimming the tree. We enjoyed a cocktail reception before dinner. While we dined later in the evening, we were treated to a performance from Albert Mulad on the violin. After dinner. we danced the night away to the festive sounds of The Denise Givens Band. Happy Holidays from all of us here in East Northport!

East Northport Residents in Coney Island

Residents from East Northport took a trip out to Coney Island. It was a gorgeous sunny day – perfect for enjoying the last few warm days of the year. We walked the boardwalk, and had to make stops later at the iconic Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs as well as L&B Spumoni Gardens. Having lunch there was nostalgic for many of us, and also very delicious!

Coney Island Pretzel Bar at the ADRC Walk

Residents and staff from The Bristal Assisted Living attended this year’s Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center Walk in Old Bethpage. The theme was “Coney Island Street Fair” so The Bristal showed their support with a booth where attendees could get fresh, hot soft pretzels. Our Coney Island Pretzel Bar was a huge hit, but most importantly, the ADRC raised funds that are so desperately needed to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease. The Bristal was proud to be a part of this effort.

National Assisted Living Week Cupcake Trays

The Bristal at East Northport decided to kick off National Assisted Living Week by thanking the local merchants and first responders in the community. The kitchen and dining team worked together to bake and assemble delicious trays of freshly baked cupcakes. One of The Bristal Ambassadors, Rudy, helped staff to deliver the treats to the following places:

Trader Joe’s

      – to thank them for their generous donation of 20 dozen flowers for Mother’s Day and Employee Appreciation

Home Depot

      – for allowing us to borrow $400 worth of palm plants for our Annual Luau

Commack Fire Department

      – in appreciation of their tireless efforts in the community and response to our calls for help

2nd Police Precinct

    – as gratitude for protecting the community every day, and responding to us when we are in need

Later in the day, Legislator Steve Stern presented The Bristal at East Northport with a Proclamation for National Assisted Living Week acknowledging our efforts to help preserve dignity and foster independence of our seniors.

We are extremely proud to be a part of this community, and are endlessly grateful to everyone who makes it such a great place to be. Happy National Assisted Living Week from all of us here in East Northport!

The Bristal at A Taste of Westbury / Carle Place

The Westbury/Carle Place Chamber of Commerce hosted A Taste of Westbury / Carle Place at Westbury Manor. For this event, Chef Mark Hann from Massapequa, Chef Amanda Ciniglio from East Northport and Chef Joe Albert from Sayville each prepared a signature dish the week before. They tasted the three dishes and selected Mark’s Pan-Seared Halibut to be served at A Taste of Westbury / Carle Place. Chefs Mark Hann, Patrick Sheppard and Daniel Cucinotta, all from Massapequa, represented The Bristal at the event and did what they always do: made delicious food! The final dish was Pan-Seared Halibut over Roast Sweet Corn and Black Bean Salsa topped with Lump Crab and Horseradish Aioli. Everyone who attended really loved it, and our table was crowded all night! Thank you to everyone who attended A Taste of Westbury / Carle Place, and to the chefs for doing another amazing event.
