Valentine’s Day in Armonk

We had a wonderful Valentine’s Day celebration full of love here at Armonk this year. We had a beautiful spread of delicious desserts from different types of cakes, cookies and chocolates to even a refreshing beverage of sparkling cider with fruit. There was a musician serenading us with love songs on his piano and we loved getting to sing and dance along with him. The best part of this holiday was being able to spend it with our friends and loved ones. Happy Valentine’s Day from The Bristal at Armonk!

High Tea in Armonk

We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon of high tea here at The Bristal at Armonk. We loved being able to try all new delicious types of teas that we never would have tried before! We also ate all types of traditional high tea treats like biscuits, scones and sandwiches.  We loved being able to spend quality time with our friends and especially our wonderful Executive Director, Winsome Bent. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend a nice winter afternoon!

Happy Holidays from Armonk

We kicked off the holiday season by lighting the menorah during Hanukkah. We enjoyed jelly donuts, and later in the week, a holiday cookie social. We also had a wonderful time at our Holiday Celebration. Happy Holidays from all of us here in Armonk!

Armonk’s Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Celebration

Thank you to all those who joined us for the Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Celebration in Armonk on October 9th, 2014. This was our biggest grand opening event to date! We are so proud to join the lovely town of Armonk, making this our second community in Westchester County. It was a wonderful day to celebrate all those who helped make The Bristal at Armonk possible, and celebrate the new future of our first residents.

Casino Night in Armonk

Here in Armonk, we held a Casino Night that was enjoyed by everyone. We played poker, craps, blackjack and roulette. The recreation staff dealt the games, and residents played each one with chips. At the end of the night, everyone received a prize. We all had an amazing time, and we’re looking forward to our next Casino Night.

Steve Fratello’s Butterfly Collection in Armonk

Steve Fratello came to The Bristal at Armonk, along with his amazing collection of rain forest butterflies. He had well over a dozen shadowboxes, each with multiple specimens, many of which he collected himself. He has been all over the world and led scientific expeditions for the Smithsonian and Field Museums. His presentation was so interesting, and was laced with personal stories of his travels. Residents truly learned a lot about all the different species of beautiful butterflies. We look forward to having Steve Fratello back someday to hear about some of his new travels and see some of his new butterfly collection.

Coney Island Pretzel Bar at the ADRC Walk

Residents and staff from The Bristal Assisted Living attended this year’s Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center Walk in Old Bethpage. The theme was “Coney Island Street Fair” so The Bristal showed their support with a booth where attendees could get fresh, hot soft pretzels. Our Coney Island Pretzel Bar was a huge hit, but most importantly, the ADRC raised funds that are so desperately needed to help in the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease. The Bristal was proud to be a part of this effort.

Dolls of the Decade in Armonk

Sharon shared her knowledge with us during a lecture about Dolls of the Decade. She showed off her collection of dolls that ranged from Barbie to baby dolls. Sharon gave us a little background on each one. It was interesting to learn about the dolls, and we shared our stories of our most memorable dolls that we had while growing up.

The American Songbook Performance in Armonk

Peter Saloman came in for a special afternoon performance. He played all of our favorites from The American Songbook. We all enjoyed his music, and sang along. When one of the songs made us feel like dancing…we did! It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

Rita’s African Show in Armonk

Rita entertained us all with a beautiful African Show. She danced for us, and brought in musical instruments. We passed them around and played to the beat of the music as she danced. She even got a few of the residents up and dancing with her! Later in the day, she brought her display into Reflections, and residents there got to enjoy the special performance. Everyone had a great time!

Armonk Residents Around the Community

Residents in Armonk are loving life here at The Bristal, and are enjoying all of the events and activities available each day. Here are a few photos from around the community. The social hour in the Bistro is always a hit. Residents gather together to enjoy appetizers and sometimes a glass of wine. In the arts & crafts studio, residents take part in many different classes. Here, they were making jewelry.

Pet Visits in Armonk

It’s always wonderful to get pet visits here in Armonk! Murphy visited first with his family. He spent the day roaming around, visiting all of us throughout the community. Later in the week, Roxanne came to visit with her owner. She hung out in the bistro and we all made our way in to see her. They are both such sweet dogs, we just love when they come to visit!

Fourth of July in Armonk

Here in Armonk, we celebrated the Fourth of July with an outdoor barbecue. The chefs got to put that wonderful built-in outdoor grill to good use, and they cooked us up hot dogs and hamburgers all afternoon! There was also a spread of salads and sides. We enjoyed the patio, the gazebo and the gorgeous weather. Happy Fourth of July!

June’s Family Recipe in Armonk

In June, the featured Family Recipe in Armonk was from Marilyn. She worked alongside Chef Lisa to create a carrot and apple soup that Marilyn’s family just loves. They chopped all of the fresh ingredients and created a soup with the perfect balance of flavors. All of the residents got to enjoy Marilyn’s soup at dinner later that night.

The Bristal Attends SunriseWALKS! at Sunrise Day Camp

The Bristal Helping Hands community volunteers proudly supported Sunrise Day Camp at this year’s SunriseWALKS! event. The Bristal provided the VIP breakfast before the walk got started. It was a warm day, but that didn’t stop anyone from coming out to support the first dedicated camp in the United States for children with cancer and their siblings. Residents, staff and their families donned their Helping Hands t-shirts and either volunteered their time, or participated in the walk. After the walk, Sunrise Day Camp provided an amazing carnival of games and treats for the children to enjoy. The Bristal team bounced around beach balls and gave them to the crowd. It was a great day, and we were glad to be a part of SunriseWALKS!
