The Bristal Better U Kickoff Event

As an introduction to The Bristal Better University lecture series, we held a kickoff event this morning. All 8 of our communities were gathered in their cinemas to get an overview of this brand new program. Maryellen McKeon, Senior Vice President of Operations for The Bristal, started the morning with a warm welcome to residents as she spoke to them via the web from the Hofstra Continuing Education offices. National Assisted Living Week 2013 in Massapequa

We celebrated National Assisted Living Week with events throughout the week, including Grandparents Day scrapbooking, where generations of Bristal family put their photos into scrapbook pages with creative embellishments.

Generations again joined together when our senior girl scouts, troop #400 shared in a project on 9/11 with Farmingdale girl scout troop #3100, making American Flags and writing what it means to be an American on the stripes. Both troops helped one another and then, exchanged flags to keep.

Art Exhibit at G Gallery

G Gallery in Bellmore Village is currently hosting a month of awareness in memory of owner Liz DeMaggio’s aunt, who had Alzheimer’s Disease. Liz invited us, along with some Alzheimer’s day programs, to showcase resident’s artwork alongside artists whose families have been effected by the disease. We were so glad to include the works of our wonderfully talented artists. Please feel free to visit the gallery during the month of September to see the exhibit.

Open Air Jazz Party in Massapequa

The Reflections family from the Bristal at Massapequa including residents, loved ones and staff, joined together for two important reasons last evening. The open air jazz party was held in the Reflections outdoor gazebo and courtyard and featured live music as families spent time together and danced the night away. We enjoyed fruit-infused waters and a refreshing summer fruit platter. The event celebrated the seven year anniversary of the Bristal in Massapequa and offered everyone the chance to win beautiful baskets and a handmade lighthouse. Reflections Art Show in Massapequa

The Bristal at Massapequa hosted all of The Bristal properties at the very first Reflections Art Exhibit, “Memories Expressed through Art.” The Reflections activity team accompanied residents to the show to honor the artists. Residents from White Plains, East Meadow, Lynbrook, North Woodmere, North Hills, Westbury, East Northport and Massapequa mingled on hot hors d’oeuvres and sipped sparkling water while admiring the works created through many weeks of art classes held at all of the communities. Food and Beverage Demo in Massapequa

The Bristal at Massapequa presented a Food and Beverage Expo where all of the community experienced the expertise of our culinary department in action. Chef Ian presented a Penne ala vodka for our Reflections residents. Meanwhile, dining room manager Michelle Rodaligo, held a Libations Creations Demonstration. We all got to sample the cuisine and cocktails. We will be hosting a wine demonstration in the library this month where special guest Glenn Schabel will explain the differences between types of wines from all over the country – as well as local faves. Grace Day School Visits Massapequa

The Grace Day School of Massapequa spent time with our residents, playing their last volleyball match of the year. Mrs. Edie Burman taught the students watercolors, by making a keepsake bookmark that the school will laminate and return to everyone. We have done so much with the Grace Day School and will miss them this summer. See you in September!
