Members of The Bristal Team Volunteer at The INN in Hempstead

The Bristal partnered with Genser, Dobow, Genser & Cona this week to serve the community by volunteering at The Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Network (INN) in Hempstead.

The volunteering started in the communities: The Bristal at East Meadow, The Bristal at Massapequa and The Bristal at Westbury. Residents gathered together to package lunches for those who come to The Mary Brennan INN for a meal, a shower, or one of the many other services that they provide there. Kickoff to Veteran’s Day Weekend in East Meadow

To kick off Veteran’s Day Weekend, residents of the Bristal at East Meadow attended a Veteran’s Day Tribute Dinner at Kellenberg High School. A number of our very own veterans were recognized and presented with certificates at the dinner. It was a lovely event, and we were so glad to have some of our residents, who served our country, be honored.

Fundraising Efforts for Alzheimer’s Disease

We’d like to extend thanks to all of The Bristal communities for their recent efforts to raise both funds and awareness for the fight against Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease. Collectively, The Bristal raised over $10,000 and donated it to various organizations dedicated to the cause! While all of the communities actively participated, our Westbury Team wound up raising the most on their own – over $3,000! East Meadow – Girl Scout Earns Her Silver Award

One of the local Girl Scouts, Chloe, came to see us at The Bristal as a part of her project to earn her Silver Award. Her little sister Emma joined her. Chloe made and presented 23 acrylic paintings that were given away at The Bristal by hosting a free auction. The two sisters also played the piano to accompany the event. Congratulations to Chloe.

Announcing Our Holiday Card Contest Winner 2013

October’s Session of The Bristal Better U was a tremendous success! All of our communities gathered in their Cinemas to log into the webinar. The topic this month was Cuisine & Culture. Daniel Dombrowski, Executive Chef of the Hofstra University Club, joined moderator Debbi Honoroff in studio. Kara Rota, Director of Editorial and Partnerships at Cookstr, joined the group by phone. Debbi talked with our panelists about many topics, including how different cultures influence American cuisine, the marketing craze around the food industry, new food trends and new vocabulary in the world of food. The 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

Residents, staff and family from all Long Island communities of The Bristal joined The Alzheimer’s Association at the 2013 Walk to End Alzheimer’s this past Saturday at Belmont Lake State Park. Our smoothie table was a huge hit with the walkers. We are so proud of The Bristal team for all the money that they raised for this important cause, and for coming out to walk. The Bristal Better U Kickoff Event

As an introduction to The Bristal Better University lecture series, we held a kickoff event this morning. All 8 of our communities were gathered in their cinemas to get an overview of this brand new program. Maryellen McKeon, Senior Vice President of Operations for The Bristal, started the morning with a warm welcome to residents as she spoke to them via the web from the Hofstra Continuing Education offices. Art Exhibit at G Gallery

G Gallery in Bellmore Village is currently hosting a month of awareness in memory of owner Liz DeMaggio’s aunt, who had Alzheimer’s Disease. Liz invited us, along with some Alzheimer’s day programs, to showcase resident’s artwork alongside artists whose families have been effected by the disease. We were so glad to include the works of our wonderfully talented artists. Please feel free to visit the gallery during the month of September to see the exhibit.

East Meadow’s Staff Appreciation 2013

For Staff Appreciation week this year, the East Meadow team was divided into the Blue Team and the Silver Team. They spent the week racking up points by participating in games and themed days…and also won prizes along the way! The Silver team ended up taking home the trophy this year. Both teams are already waiting for next year’s fun! We’re so proud to have these folks as a part of The Bristal team and we’re so glad to spend the week celebrating them.
