Celebrating the Holidays in Lynbrook

We made sure that everyone enjoyed a little holiday cheer this year while celebrating the holidays! We had parties for residents, parties in Reflections, and a party where we invited all of our families to come and join us! It is a special time of year, and what better way to celebrate than to share time with those we love? Our days have been filled with delicious food and drinks, unending music, and lots of laughter. There have been visits from Santa Claus, special meals complete with chef stations, and live entertainment from JK Hodge, Greg Mulad, Lou Esposito, Johnny C, and Vance Brescia. Happy Holidays from The Bristal at Lynbrook!

Veterans Day in Lynbrook

This Veterans Day, we honored all of our veterans here in Lynbrook with a special ceremony. A few veterans from the local VFW came and made a special presentation. This was followed by Dawn, our Executive Director, presenting each of the veterans with a Certificate of Appreciation. We followed up our ceremony with some refreshments – complete with patriotic red, white and blue cupcakes.

Wine & Paint Night in Lynbrook

Residents in Lynbrook thoroughly enjoyed our most recent Wine & Paint Night event. We always have such a great turnout when we do this and last night was no different! Residents enjoyed wine, cheese, and crackers while they followed the guidance of Director of Recreation, Allie. Each resident did their own take on this autumn scene, and they all turned out to be masterpieces in their own way!

Halloween Festivities in Lynbrook

On Halloween this year, we started our day with a visit from Lynbrook South Middle School. The students played music for us and also handed out beautifully painted pumpkins to the residents. This year, the residents were ready with a gift for them, too – special goodie bags that they made for the kids. Later, just for fun, we taught the residents how to do Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ dance! Then, we enjoyed some entertainment in the evening from Gerard Corbett. Everyone had a great Halloween!

Arabian Nights Experience in Lynbrook

Here in Lynbrook, we had an Arabian Nights Experience that everyone truly enjoyed! Nabila, an amazing belly dancer, came in to give us a personal performance. Not only did she dance, but also taught us about the culture of belly dancing and the origins of “Arabian Nights.” Residents enjoyed food from different Middle Eastern cultures. Of course, by the middle of the experience, we could not help ourselves and we got up to dance along with Nabila! Over all it was an incredible afternoon, and a new experience for many of us.

National Assisted Living Week – Keep Connected

This year, the theme for National Assisted Living Week was “Keep Connected.” In line with that, The Bristal at Lynbrook invited residents from Sayville to participate in a video chat session! Residents in both communities got a tutorial in how the technology works, and then connected to their friends on the other end. This was the first time using this technology for many of the residents who participated, and we hope that they will use it again, as it is a great way to stay in touch with family and friends anywhere. Some residents even set up lunch dates with their new video chat friends! It was so exciting to showcase just one of the ways that we can use technology to keep connected.

Testimonial from The Simon Family

We are sad to see our Mom Gloria Simon leave the place that has been home for the last 2 years, but wanted to express our deepest gratitude for the compassionate care, genuine warmth and fellowship, professionalism and personability that has enabled our family and our Mom to navigate this challenging ordeal in our lives. Everyone on Staff here has conducted themselves with the highest standards of excellence, but special thanks to Mary, Shaniqua, Dawn, Marie G, Ruth, Claudia and Bill. Your dedication and service distinguish you not only as employees of an award winning facility, but as individuals whose concern, commitment and sense of community deserve the highest praise!

Bake Sale Fundraiser in Lynbrook

Here in Lynbrook, we are actively raising money throughout the summer for the Alzheimer’s Association. One of our first events was a recent bake sale. Staff and family members baked some amazing goodies for our beautiful table. All proceeds from it go directly to the Alzheimer’s Association. We raised almost $500 in just one afternoon! We even had families and friends request another one for next month. The Bristal at Lynbrook is certainly dedicated to fundraising for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and we can’t wait to come together for more days like today.

Memorial Day in Lynbrook

We didn’t let the rain get us down here in Lynbrook. We simply moved our barbecue off the patio and indoors. We played indoor volleyball, and enjoyed a BBQ lunch, but we never lost sight of the true meaning of the day. We proudly wore our red white and blue and honored all of the men and women who have served our country.

Speed Meeting Hosted by The Bristal at Massapequa

The Bristal at Massapequa invited residents from The Bristal at Lynbrook and The Bristal at Sayville for a Speed Meeting event. Residents sat across from one another and had just a few minutes to get to know the person across the way. Once time was up, it was time to move on to the next seat! That way, residents had a chance to meet lots of new people. It was so much fun, we didn’t want to stop! After the sessions, we all enjoyed a happy hour with delicious appetizers and celebrated our new friendships. We can’t wait to do it again soon!

Art Gallery Opening in Lynbrook

Here at The Bristal at Lynbrook, we proudly displayed unique artwork at our first annual Art Gallery Opening. The pieces were created by both residents and staff. Family members and friends joined us for the opening and enjoyed a fine assortment of cheeses, finger sandwiches and wine. Entertainer JK Hodge played the piano throughout the event to add to the ambiance. There is so much creative talent here at The Bristal, and we’re so proud to show it off!

Ten Communities of The Bristal Named “Caring Stars of 2016” by Caring.com

The Bristal Assisted Living at East Meadow, East Northport, Lake Grove, Lynbrook, Massapequa, North Hills, North Woodmere, Sayville, White Plains and Woodcliff Lake Honored Among Top Senior Living Communities in the Nation — Named “Caring Star of 2016” for Service Excellence in Assisted Living

Positive Consumer Ratings Led to This Industry-Leading Distinction from Caring.com

Caring Stars 2016 - StandardBadgeCaring.com has named The Bristal at East Meadow, East Northport, Lake Grove, Lynbrook, Massapequa, North Hills, North Woodmere, Sayville, White Plains and Woodcliff Lake as “Caring Stars of 2016” for service excellence in assisted living. In ratings and reviews from older adults and their family members, these ten communities earned a 5-star consumer rating (the highest possible score), while also meeting other qualifying criteria for this national honor.

In New York State, only 38 assisted living communities were named a Caring Star, and The Bristal is so proud that 9 of our communities were among those honored. The Bristal at Woodcliff Lake, our only community in New Jersey, was among the 24 communities that were honored in that state.

Americans are increasingly seeking insights provided by online reviews to help guide important senior care decisions for aging or ailing loved ones. In multiple Caring.com research studies, the majority of family caregivers have indicated that they turn to the Internet and consumer reviews when researching senior living communities, and have relied on these perspectives more so than in-person recommendations from geriatric professionals or medical personnel. Now entering its fifth year, the Caring Stars annual list helps consumers reliably narrow senior living options for their loved ones to the most-acclaimed communities – particularly as they gather for the holidays and discover increased or urgent senior care needs.

The Bristal at East Northport and North Hills Each Win Their Third Award, and Lynbrook Wins its Fourth, Making All Three Communities “Caring Super Stars”

Caring Stars 2016 - SuperStarBadgeOut of only 96 communities nationwide who were awarded the distinction of being “Caring Super Stars” in 2016, we are so pleased to announce that three of those winners are communities of The Bristal. This badge is awarded only to communities who have earned the distinction of “Caring Star” three or more times in the program’s five year history. You can view the past winners here:

Pen Pal Lunch Hosted by Lynbrook

After a successful pen pal program, The Bristal at Sayville had their friends from Lynbrook stop over last month for lunch. This time, The folks from Lynbrook returned the lovely gesture by inviting residents from Sayville over for lunch! After we enjoyed a delicious spread in The Bistro, the residents from Sayville hung out a bit for an amazing drum circle with George from Spirit Sky Drum. It was a fun filled afternoon with new friends!
